The Humility to Ask for Help

Take 2-3 minutes to quiet yourself and ask God to speak to you today through your devotional time.  

Reading: 1 Peter 5

Be sure to highlight or note anything that stands out to you while you read.  
After reading the passage, take the next 5-10 minutes and spend time reflecting on what you read. You can write these things down in a journal or record them in your phone. Be attentive to both what you highlighted in the passage and what is going on in your life.

Peter connects humility with how we respond to anxiety. When we are anxious about things we cannot control, our instinct can be to try harder, figure everything out, or carry the burden ourselves. But God invites us to humble ourselves by recognizing that we need His help and trusting that He cares for us. Casting our anxieties on God is an act of humility because we are admitting that we cannot carry everything on our own.

What anxiety are you carrying right now that God may be inviting you to stop trying to handle by yourself?
        
Now, take 10 minutes to seek God in prayer…  

1. Begin your time in prayer by taking 1-3 minutes to sit in silence (You can take longer if you sense the Spirit already beginning to speak to you).  
2. Pray through the things you sensed God speaking to you through the Scriptures or pray the following prayer: Father, we confess that we often try to carry things that were never meant for us to carry alone. Give us the humility to recognize our need for You and the faith to trust Your care for us. Help us release our anxieties into Your hands rather than allowing them to control our hearts and minds. Amen.
   
3. Close by taking 5 minutes to sit in silence, asking God if there is anything else He wants to speak to you today.

Write down one thing you cannot control and intentionally give it to God in prayer today.
