Drawing Near To God
Take 2-3 minutes to quiet yourself and ask God to speak to you today through your devotional time.
Reading: James 4 and Genesis 5
Be sure to highlight or note anything that stands out to you while you read.
After reading the passage, take the next 5-10 minutes and spend time reflecting on what you read. You can write these things down in a journal or record them in your phone. Be attentive to both what you highlighted in the passage and what is going on in your life.
Walking with God is not accidental—it is intentional. Enoch didn’t stumble into closeness with God; he cultivated it day after day. Scripture tells us simply that he “walked with God,” a phrase that speaks of consistency, intimacy, and obedience. God invites us into the same kind of relationship. Drawing near to God is an active choice, not a passive experience. The depth of your relationship with Him is directly connected to the time and attention you give Him. God desires nearness with ordinary people who are willing to seek Him faithfully. When you draw near, He promises to respond—not with distance, but with His presence.
Am I intentionally nurturing my relationship with God, or assuming closeness without pursuit?
Now, take 10 minutes to seek God in prayer…

Now, take 10 minutes to seek God in prayer…
- Begin your time in prayer by taking 1-3 minutes to sit in silence (You can take longer if you sense the Spirit already beginning to speak to you).
- Pray through the things you sensed God speaking to you through the Scriptures or pray the following prayer: Lord, I desire to walk closely with You. Teach me to seek You daily and to cultivate a relationship marked by trust, obedience, and intimacy.
- Close by taking 5 minutes to sit in silence, asking God if there is anything else He wants to speak to you today.
Take Action:
- Set aside a specific time today for prayer and Scripture, even if brief.
- Identify one habit that distracts you from God and commit to limiting it this week.
