Perseverance in Obedience
Take 2-3 minutes to quiet yourself and ask God to speak to you today through your devotional time.
Reading: Exodus 5
Be sure to highlight or note anything that stands out to you while you read.
After reading the passage, take the next 5-10 minutes and spend time reflecting on what you read. You can write these things down in a journal or record them in your phone. Be attentive to both what you highlighted in the passage and what is going on in your life.
Moses obeyed God, yet instead of immediate success, he faced greater opposition. Pharaoh increased the Israelites’ burdens, and the people turned against Moses. It seemed like obedience had only made things worse.
But God wasn’t finished. He reaffirmed His promise and called Moses to persevere in faith. Often, our obedience leads to unexpected challenges, but that doesn’t mean we’ve heard God wrong. His timing and plan are perfect, even when we can’t see it.
If you’re struggling because your obedience hasn’t yet produced the results you expected, hold on. God’s faithfulness never fails.
Has there ever been a moment in obedience that seemed like it was making things worse? How did God show Himself present in those moments of waiting?
Now, take 10 minutes to seek God in prayer…

Has there ever been a moment in obedience that seemed like it was making things worse? How did God show Himself present in those moments of waiting?
Now, take 10 minutes to seek God in prayer…
- Begin your time in prayer by taking 1-3 minutes to sit in silence (You can take longer if you sense the Spirit already beginning to speak to you).
- Pray through the things you sensed God speaking to you through the Scriptures or pray the following prayer: Lord, give me strength to persevere when obedience feels difficult. Help me trust that Your timing is perfect and Your promises never fail.
- Close by taking 5 minutes to sit in silence, asking God if there is anything else He wants to speak to you today.
Take Action:
- Reflect on a past challenge where obedience led to unexpected difficulties. How did God ultimately prove faithful?
- Write down a promise from Scripture that reminds you to trust God’s timing. Keep it visible as a daily encouragement.
