Answering the Call
Take 2-3 minutes to quiet yourself and ask God to speak to you today through your devotional time.
Reading: Matthew 4:18-22, Luke 5:1-11
Be sure to highlight or note anything that stands out to you while you read.
After reading the passage, take the next 5-10 minutes and spend time reflecting on what you read. You can write these things down in a journal or record them in your phone. Be attentive to both what you highlighted in the passage and what is going on in your life.
Jesus' call to His disciples was abrupt and demanding. They left everything to follow Him. This radical obedience came after witnessing Jesus' power in the miraculous catch of fish. Consider how God has demonstrated His power in your life. How has this affected your willingness to follow Him? Reflect on areas where God might be calling you to step out in faith. What "nets" might you need to leave behind?
What is God calling you to do that requires faith and surrender? What might be holding you back?
Now, take 10 minutes to seek God in prayer…

Now, take 10 minutes to seek God in prayer…
- Begin your time in prayer by taking 1-3 minutes to sit in silence (You can take longer if you sense the Spirit already beginning to speak to you).
- Ask God for the courage to respond to His call with immediate obedience, trusting in His provision and purpose.
- Pray through the things you sensed God speaking to you through the Scriptures or pray the following prayer: Lord, give me the courage to follow You wholeheartedly. Help me release anything that hinders me from fully obeying Your call. Amen.
- Close by taking 5 minutes to sit in silence, asking God if there is anything else He wants to speak to you today.
Take Action:
- Identify one "net" in your life (a habit, fear, or attachment) that might be preventing you from following God fully. Pray for strength to release it.
- Take one step of faith today in response to God's call, whether big or small.
