The Incarnate Word
Continuing in the Following Jesus series, today we will look at having a relationship with God, representing Him in human form, and living to shine His light in the world we live in. Before we get started, let’s pray.
Lord, I thank You for the relationship I have with You, and for You loving me. I ask You to be with me today, and let me shine Your light in my life and in those around me. Even in the darkness, Lord, let me see Your light and feel Your love. Amen.
John 1:1-5 (NLT)
1 In the beginning the Word already existed.
The Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
2 He existed in the beginning with God.
3 God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.
4 The Word gave life to everything that was created,
and his life brought light to everyone.
5 The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it.
John's gospel gives a description of Jesus Christ. Jesus is God in the flesh, who came to this earth to live among His creation and to bring light to everyone living in darkness.
We need to have a relationship with Jesus, asking Him into our lives and then living in a way that people will notice and want what we have. We can do this by shining His light through us and in the others around us. How is your relationship today with Christ? Are you relying on Him daily, or just when you think you need Him?
As followers of Jesus, we still live in a world of darkness that seems to be all around us. We experience this through suffering in relationships, sickness, and death. Remembering the truth in the scriptures, and the resurrection of Jesus, allows us to have faith that the darkness is not the end. How is the light of God shining into the darkness around you?
Pray that God helps His light shine through you today. Here are some prayer prompts to help you get started...
Lord, help me to have a closer relationship with You, and rely on You more in my daily life….
Lord, help me to show Your light and love to someone in a dark time in their life….
I pray that today you feel God's love and blessings on you. May God show you the people He needs you to be a light to today.
