Shield of Faith – Contagious Faith
Today, let's prepare our hearts for what God wants to do through our time in corporate worship. We need the Holy Spirit to lead us and show us what He is doing currently and what He wants to do in us. This involves praying and asking Him to make us aware of His activity in our lives.
If you're new to prayer and still trying to understand how God speaks to us, pray the prayer below, expecting that God will meet you where you are.
Let’s pray…
Holy Spirit,
Thank You for Your wisdom and courage. I need it every day. So, I ask right now that You fill this time with Your presence, and allow me to sense what You want to speak and where You are leading me. Amen.
This week, we will explore how the Shield of Faith connects us and how it can be used on the offensive of the battle we face. There's powerful imagery of the Greeks and Romans using their shields in groups to form a shield wall. The soldiers would lock their shields together to form a wall and move in unison to advance on the enemy's position. Between the shields, they would use long spears to attack their enemies. When we use faith and are obedient, it pushes back against the attacks of the enemy and encourages faith in others. Acts of faith draw others into faith.
As you start to think about this idea, take 4-5 minutes to answer these questions in your mind or feel free to write them in a journal:
Have you ever seen someone do something that required faith that encouraged your faith?
In what ways might God be asking you to take a step of obedience to draw others to a greater level of faith?
Close your time today by talking with God about your thoughts here. Take time to pray through the following prompts. Feel free to take as much time as you need.
Holy Spirit, speak to me and direct me in the ways You are moving.
Ask God to strengthen your faith where fear and doubt linger.
Stay in this posture of talking and listening to God. As you go to your time of worship and teaching at church today, ask God to speak to you!
