Choose Peace
Yesterday, we looked at God’s wonderful purpose for our life to become like Jesus. Today, we are spending our time keeping with the theme of peace with us towards God and reflecting on the truth that God has made His peace available to each of us. God provides us with clear instruction in today’s passage of how we can experience His peace. Let us start by inviting God into this time through prayer.
Heavenly Father, I come to You today and ask that You open my heart and mind to absorb Your word and apply Your truths to my life. I want to serve You by being obedient to Your word. I desire to experience Your peace continually. Draw me to You through prayer and time in Your word. I love You, Father. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)
6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
In these two short verses, we are presented with God's plan and His instructions for each of us, as followers of Christ, to have a life filled with His peace. We all experienced this peace when we surrendered our lives to God, through our belief in His Son, Jesus Christ. There was an incomprehensible peace that each of us experienced at that moment. If we are walking in obedience, we will continue to experience this peace as we live in Christ Jesus. Do you remember the peace you experienced at your salvation?
The more we move towards God, the more we will be able to experience the peace that comes from Him. Moving towards God is not a difficult concept to understand, but it requires us making daily choices, like rising early before others in our household, to have a special location to meet with Him, to read His Word, and to have an ongoing conversation with Him. “Tell God what you need and thank Him for all He has done” (verse 6). Are you seeking and thanking God in prayer daily?
Peace comes as we live in Christ Jesus and not in our circumstances. I recently went through an experience where I was obedient to God's prompting me to do something I had never done before, and I had no idea how the situation would unfold. I fully understood what God was asking of me, and my heart was overflowing with desire to help, but I was anxious about my abilities. When the time came, my worrying ceased immediately, and the Holy Spirit worked in me and through me. As long as we keep moving towards God in obedience, His peace comes in us through Christ Jesus and it is indescribable. Have you recently experienced the peace of God?
