Jesus’ Calling Was to Die
We are purposed to set aside Sundays at the Tree Church Daily as a special time to prepare our hearts and minds for worship, prayer, and fellowship. It is a day to devote to God, and to learn more about what He wants for our lives. This involves praying and asking the Holy Spirit to speak His truth to us.
Begin your day by thanking God for His presence in your life, and asking God what He has for you today. If you are new to prayer and need some help getting started, then pray along with the opening prayer below. Let’s pray…
Heavenly Father, You are the guiding force in my life. I love You and I want to do Your will. I am so thankful for how You are shaping me and leading me to a more fulfilling life. Help me to always listen for Your voice, even over all the noise this world shouts at me. Thank You for always being here for me. Amen.
We are continuing in the series “Following Jesus.” What does it mean to truly be a disciple of Jesus? We are learning the only way to truly be a disciple is to follow and obey Jesus’ teachings and examples. This week, we will examine what it means to “die” to the things of this life.
As you think about this, take a few moments to consider the following questions. You can write out your thoughts or just spend some time thinking through them.
What does it mean to “die” to certain things? Jesus had to die to many things long before He was placed on the cross and crucified. He surrendered His will to the Father and led a life serving others.
Can you think of any behaviors, habits, or desires you would need to give up (in other words, “die to”) to have a closer walk with Jesus?
Continue talking with God about what you are feeling. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand what it means to die to oneself. You can start your prayer by simply sharing your feelings with God, or feel free to use the following prompts to help you get started. Don’t rush this process; take as much time as you need.
Father, help me understand what it means to be a disciple and to die to certain things…
Holy Spirit, please fill me with the desire and the courage to seek a closer walk with You…
At church, and throughout your day, continue to seek God and listen for His voice. Let the Holy Spirit work in you as we join together for a time of worship and teaching.
