Legacy
Sundays at the Tree Church Daily are a day to prepare our hearts for what God wants to do through corporate worship. We need the Spirit to lead us and show us what He is doing currently and wants to do in us. This involves praying and asking Him to allow us to be aware of His activity in our lives.
If you are new to prayer and still trying to understand how God speaks to us, pray the prayer below, anticipating that God will meet you where you are.
Let’s pray…
Father, give me vision beyond my own life and my own needs and desires. As You have been speaking to me about my calling and my place in the work You are doing, sometimes it is clear, and sometimes I am still not sure what it all means. Please help me today to hear Your voice. To know where You are leading me and to respond with trust and hope that You have a plan and purpose for my existence. Amen.
We continue in the Not Coming Down series this week, looking at how sometimes the things God calls us to do not make sense to us because they are not for us alone. He calls us to not just respond in obedience for our own benefit, but so that others, future generations, have a foundation to build upon. King David models this by giving to and gathering the supplies for the temple that he would not build. Nehemiah, too, builds the temple walls so that future generations of Jerusalem residents would benefit. Investing in future generations means that we sacrifice now so that others benefit later. Even if we don’t have generations to come from our own families, we are part of the body of Christ, and we want His mission to take root and develop for the years to come.
As you start to think about this idea, take 4-5 minutes to answer these questions in your mind, or feel free to write them in a journal somewhere.
Why is it so hard to think beyond our own generation?
What would you give to see future generations know Christ?
Close your time today talking with God about your thoughts here. You can simply start by talking to Him, or you can use the following prompts to help you get started. Feel free to take as much time as you need.
Father, sometimes it is difficult to get past my own needs and desires. Will You help me…
Stay in this posture of talking and listening to God. As you go to your time of worship and teaching at church, ask God to speak to you today!
